Nigerian striker, Ikechukwu Uche is a man in form.
Last week, he scored a hat-trick as Villarreal thrashed Rayo
Vallecano 5-2 at the Vallecas on match day 18 of the Primeira Liga.
He followed that up with a stunning brace on Monday night as the
Yellow Submarine sunk Real Sociedad 5-1 at El Madrigal on match day 19
of Spain’s top flight competition.
Uche’s first goal and Villarreal’s second of the night was a thing of real beauty.
Three Villarreal players, Bruno Soriano, Moisés Bornonado and
Giovani dos Santos exchanged passes at great pace in the final third
with the Mexican delivering a precise cross from the left that an
unmarked Uche planted home in glee in the 27th minute.
Uche made it 4-0 on the night to complete his brace in the 55th minute with another brilliant goal.
The forward started the move at the edge of the Sociedad penalty
area with a simple pass to Javier Aquino whose good work freed
compatriot, dos Santos also on the edge of the box.
He showed great poise to set up the Nigerian striker who just
managed to snap the offside trap before dispatching past the visiting
goalkeeper, Claudio Munoz to record his 11th league goal of the season.
Uche’s form is expected to raise the eyebrows of Nigeria coach,
Stephen Keshi who has consistently overlooked the striker since his
lukewarm showing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Keshi recently told supersport.com that he is full of respect for
the 30-year-old forward but went on to question his attitude.
“Ikechukwu Uche is probably the most intelligent Nigerian striker in
the world today but at the moment, his attitude (to the national team)
is not right. As soon as he (Uche) is ready to play for Nigeria, I will
welcome him back with open arms,” Keshi said.
Uche has scored 18 times in his 44 appearances for Nigeria. After all said and done, we all expect to see Uche in the squad to travel to brazil for this summer's world cup
