Glo/CAF Football Awards: Mikel Obi thanks fans for support

Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi, has expressed his gratitude to Nigerian football fans, for supporting him before and after last week’s Glo/CAF African Football Award.
Mikel Obi finished second to Cote d’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure, who won the award for the third consecutive year, but states that he was overwhelmed by the magnitude of support he received from fans in Nigeria and abroad.

“I am overwhelmed by the support of Nigerians at home and abroad, and others who voted for me and supported me in my quest to be crowned the African Player of the Year,” Mikel Obi said in statement released by the Chelsea midfielder through his agent, John Ola Shittu.
“It’s a great joy that what I do week-in, week-out for my great club Chelsea and my beloved country Nigeria is appreciated by millions of people worldwide.”
The Chelsea player also said he would have loved to hold an interactive session with fans, but his very hectic schedule could not make it possible.
